METAIRIE, La. —

OTAs, training camp, preseason, it’s all led up to this for the Black & Gold.

It’s finally week one.

The buzz and excitement around the Saints is different this year because while the team won’t call it a rebuild, it will be a reset for the Black & Gold.

Kellen Moore will coach his first game as a head coach, and Spencer Rattler will be the Saints’ starting quarterback on Sunday when the team opens the season against the Arizona Cardinals.

The newness of each team is part of the challenge that comes with week one.

“You’re watching film of last year obviously. You have a little bit of exposure in preseason, but it’s very minimal,” Kellen Moore said.

“There’s a healthy dose of element of unknown week one. Obviously, I think on our side, we have a little bit of element of unknown. That’s what week ones are,” the coach continued.

That unknown means the Saints will have to play clean football early in the year.

“It’s really the first three weeks of the season, everyone’s got a lot of unknown factors. You’ve got to play really clean football the first few weeks of the season. You’ve got to really focus on the fundamentals, trust your rules. There’s going to be, unfortunately, some mistakes and you’ve got to play really clean football and give yourself a chance,” Moore said.

The Saints will debut a new look on Sunday.

The team will be wearing their gold alternate uniforms to open the season.

“This has been a goal for some guys, Cam [Jordan] specifically, for a while. They were all really excited about that opportunity,” the head coach said.

The oddsmakers are not high on the Saints this season, and Vegas doesn’t like the Black & Gold in the opener either. The Cardinals are a 6.5-point favorite.

Kickoff is at noon in the Superdome on Sunday.
