The Detroit Lions have named their captains for the 2025 season, tapping six players to hold the honor: Quarterback Jared Goff, receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson and linebackers Alex Anzalone and Grant Stuard.
It’s the same group as last year, with Stuard, a core special teamer signed in the offseason, replacing Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who was released in March. Stuard plays with a consistently high motor, and his effort and impact on special teams were seemingly enough to garner respect from his new teammates.
Goff and Anzalone have been named captains for each of their five seasons in Detroit, cementing themselves as two pillars in the organization’s revival. It’s the third time for St. Brown and Sewell, and the second time for Hutchinson, who donned the “C” patch on his Lions uniform for the first time last season.
The Lions will open their season at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 7.
