When the New York Giants decided to part ways with star running back Saquon Barkley in March of 2024, few predicted that he would have one of his best seasons and lead his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles, to the Super Bowl.
Many, starting with Giants general manager Joe Schoen, figured Barkley was on the downside of his career and was not worth the three-year, $37.75 million deal, with $26 million in guarantees, the Eagles gave him. He obviously proved them wrong.

The league recently ranked Barkley No. 1 in its latest rankings of the top 100 players heading into the 2025 season.
The Barkley decision left egg on the face of the Giants’ brass, not only because it backfired but in the manner in which it was done. The process played out in public thanks to the team’s participation in HBO’s Hard Knocks.
Schoen felt the Giants could spend their resources elsewhere, while co-owner John Mara wanted to keep Barkley, stating he would lose sleep if Barkley signed with the Eagles.
It’s all in the past for the Giants, now. They have moved on with a solid backfield of Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devein Singletary, and rookie Cam Skattebo.
