The rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions has certainly picked up this year after the Bears pried away Ben Johnson to become their new head coach.

Johnson, who was the offensive coordinator for the Lions from 2022 to 2024, joined the Bears this offseason and has built the excitement and anticipation for the future of the organization with Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams working together.

During a recent interview with Kay Adams of “Up & Adams,” Johnson was asked about his former head coach in Detroit, Dan Campbell. Since coming to a NFC North division rival, Johnson said he has not heard from Campbell much, and his phone has been pretty silent as the two former colleagues are now opponents.

“I take a lot (from Dan Campbell), because the story of my career has been more losing than it has been winning,” Johnson said. “So I’ve seen more ways not to do it, and Detroit was the first place I saw ways to do it and have success. Particularly, turning that place completely around, I was a part of that. I really enjoyed my time there. I wish them nothing but the best all but two games there. My phone has been quiet for a while now, we’ve got a lot going on, they’ve got a lot going on, so it’s to be expected.”

Johnson will not have to wait long to face his former team, as the Bears are scheduled to visit the Lions in Week 2 and then close their season out at home against Detroit in Week 18. Getting to go against his former team to open and close the year should bring a bit more importance, emphasis, and fire in this newly created rivalry between the Bears, Johnson and Lions.
