NY Giants training camp 2025 practice highlights from the sidelines
See and hear New York Giants players in highlights during training camp practices from the sideline in East Rutherford.
The long wait is finally over.
The NFL season is just about here as the Giants getting their season started this weekend with a divisional matchup against NFC East counterparts Washington Commanders on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. from Northwest Stadium.
It’ll be the first regular-season game for Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, who makes his Big Blue debut on the road with Jaxson Dart now listed as the unofficial backup QB on the roster.
The oddsmakers don’t have faith the Giants can beat Jayden Daniels and the Commanders, with Washington currently a six-point favorite at home on BetMGM.
Can the G-Men pull off the upset in Landover, or will the recent Week 1 struggles continue for the Giants and the Commanders come out on top in the season opener?
Our prognosticators throughout this 2025 season are: Art Stapleton (Giants/NFL writer, NorthJersey.com), Bert Bainbridge (sports trending reporter/columnist, NorthJersey.com), Steve Edelson (columnist, APP.com), Brian Marron (digital producer, NorthJersey.com), Chris Iseman (Rutgers writer, NorthJersey.com), Bob Jordan (sports editor, Asbury Park Press/APP.com) and Dave Rivera (sports editor, USA TODAY Northeast/NorthJersey.com).
With the 2025 season right around the corner, here are our staff predictions for Week 1 between the Giants and Commanders:
Art Stapleton
The pick: Giants 27, Commanders 21
Here’s why: It’s hard to follow up Year 2 – just ask Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. The expectations are sky high for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders, but there could be somewhat of a regression. Tyrone Tracy is an X-factor and will make this passing game with Russell Wilson more effective. Calling an upset here if the Giants’ defense and Abdul Carter can contain Daniels.
Bert Bainbridge
The pick: Commanders 27, Giants 20
Here’s why: Easily the best success the Giants have had against their division mates in recent years has been versus the Commanders (4-3-1 vs. Washington since 2021). Even in their 3-14 campaign in 2024, the G-Men played the Commanders tough both times and loss by five or fewer points in both games. The Giants will keep it close again in this year’s opener, but will come up short late in the game to drop their regular season opener for the eight time in the last nine seasons.
Brian Marron
The pick: Giants 23, Commanders 17
Here’s why: The Giants’ new pass rush shows up in spades in Week 1, frazzling Jayden Daniels enough for the Giants to pick up an upset win.
Chris Iseman
The pick: Commanders 24, Giants 17
Here’s why: The Commanders are the better team right now. No reason to overthink this.
Bob Jordan
The pick: Commanders 31, Giants 10
Here’s why: Each loss moves the Giants another step closer to the Jaxson Dart era.
Dave Rivera
The pick: Commanders 26, Giants 17
Here’s why: Jayden Daniels and the Commanders will have a target on their backs this season, but they’ll respond with a Week 1 victory to get things going. Russell Wilson and the Giants hang in this one for a while, but you’ll never really feel like they’ll have a chance to win here.
