Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback CJ Beathard is “expected” to be signed to the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, according to Mike Garafolo.

Beathard worked out with the Lions on Wednesday, and he will be the team’s third quarterback behind Jared Goff and Kyle Allen.

Beathard spent the 2021 through 2023 seasons with the Jaguars, backing up Trevor Lawrence. During that stretch, he appeared in 13 games, which included one start, and completed 74.2% of his 66 pass attempts with one touchdown and one interception.

In 2024, Beathard was with the Jaguars through the summer but was released during roster cutdowns with an injury settlement. Beathard suffered a groin injury in the preseason finale that year.

Beathard would eventually land on the Miami practice squad before being signed to the Jaguars’ active roster in early November while Lawrence was sidelined. He would back up Mac Jones with Lawrence out, but didn’t appear in any games.

Beathard was a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2017. He’s appeared in 32 games over his career with 13 starts.
