The 2025 NFL season is finally here. We have our first injury report of the season for the Washington Commanders.
Only one player did not participate for Washington, and it’s a big one: tight end Zach Ertz. No worries, Washington fans. It’s a veteran rest day for Ertz. Head coach Dan Quinn routinely manages the veteran’s practice workload throughout the season, so you’ll see linebacker Bobby Wagner, edge Von Miller, left tackle Laremy Tunsil, quarterback Marcus Mariota, wide receiver Terry McLaurin and others receive rest days during the week.
Ertz said this offseason he was appreciative of how Quinn helped manage his workload last season.
The Commanders did have three players who were limited participants:
WR Noah Brown: kneeDE Dorance Armstrong: kneeCB Jonathan Jones: hamstring
The only one to monitor here is Brown. He returned to practice last week after missing most of training camp after suffering a knee injury during minicamp in June. He seems to be trending toward playing on Sunday, though.
Kicker Matt Gay (illness) and Mariota (Achilles) were listed as full participants.
The Giants only listed one player on the entire injury report: left tackle Andrew Thomas. Thomas is dealing with a foot injury.
“Each day he is improving,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said of Thomas, via Dan Benton of Giants Wire.
The Commanders and Giants will kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday from Northwest Stadium.
