One of the surprises from the 2025 NFL draft was the New York Giants trading up for a second first-round pick.

With that pick, general manager Joe Schoen selected Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who he clearly didn’t believe would be available in Round 2. It was also reported previously that the Giants would have selected Shedeur Sanders had Dart not been available.

The Giants are known to be incredibly hard on quarterbacks during their draft evaluation process. They provide prospective quarterbacks with a playbook that has intentional mistakes in it. The goal is to see if the quarterback can spot the mistakes.

Sanders failed to accomplish that, and the Giants called him out on it. That angered the quarterback, and the rest of the interview did not go well.

In discussing the outcome of the draft with NFL executives around the league, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler learned that Sanders knew that interview didn’t go well.

While the Giants worked out Shedeur Sanders the week before the draft, Sanders sensed much earlier that New York probably wasn’t in the cards for him. Sanders openly acknowledged during the predraft process that he didn’t hit it off with Giants coaches, per a source.

Ultimately, Sanders fell to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the draft where he will still compete for the starting role with Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. Deshaun Watson will likely miss the entire 2025 season recovering from an Achilles tendon tear that required multiple surgeries.

As for the Giants, well, they’re quite content with how the draft turned out and have high hopes for Dart, especially since he will get the benefit of learning from Russell Wilson for a year before he is asked to step onto the field.
