Boise State was ranked No. 25 in preseason AP polls but came out of the gates sputtering, losing in emphatic fashion to South Florida 34-7. The Broncos scored the first touchdown of the game, a 6-yard pass from Maddux Madsen to Chris Marshall, but were thereafter plagued by fumbles – five for the game – including three lost. Madsen would finish with 225 yards on 25-of-46 passing, with an additional 31 yards on the ground.

Eastern Washington looks to bounce back after losing their opener 31-21 to the Incarnate Word Cardinals. Quarterback Jared Taylor completed 21 of 38 passes for 183 yards and added 35 rushing yards and a touchdown in the losing effort. Running back Marceese Yetts led the team on the ground with 59 yards on six carries, including two touchdowns.
