The Holmen Vikings hosted the Onalaska Hilltoppers for a MVC battle between two unbeaten teams.Â
Early in the game, Holmen would fumble a toss play which lead to an safety that gave Onalaska a 2-0 lead.Â
The defenses would dominate the rest of the first half and the game would remain that score going into halftime.Â
At the start of the second half, John Faherty would return the opening kick off all the way for a touchdown to give Holmen a 7-2 lead. The Vikings defense would then force a three and out, but a muffed punt gave Onalaska the ball with great field position. Ian Kowall would then connect with Jackson Egan for a touchdown to give Onalaska an 8-7 lead.Â
Both teams would score again to make it 15 to 13 Hilltoppers. Onalaska was close to scoring but would stall out as Holmen took over with just under two minutes remaining.Â
Holmen would go into their bag of trick and a halfback pass would find Jack Barth connecting with Ryland Eickhoff for a 72 yard touchdown to put the Vikings up 19-15.Â
Holmen would close to out and secure the win in a wild game.Â
Ian Kowall would go 19 of 30 for 172 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.Â
Jack Barth would add 48 rushing yards to his 72 passing yards in the Vikings win.Â
Onalaska will host Reedsburg in week four and Holmen will host Sparta. Â
