Northside obliterates Montevallo on Friday after taking a substantial 42-point lead in the first quarter, which allowed the Rams to coast to a 56-0 victory.

This game started with Northside scoring under one minute of regulation after a few big runs by the Rams’ junior running back Bennet Green, which brought Northside inside the Bulldogs’ 25-yard line. This led to a 22-yard touchdown pass by Rams’ junior quarterback Jackson Rhodes, who connected with senior wide receiver JJ Case to take a 7-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first quarter.

Northside’s defense stuffed Montevallo on its first drive, forcing the Bulldogs to go three and out, which resulted in the Rams’ offense starting its next drive inside the Bulldogs’ 40-yard line after a 15-yard punt return by Northside’s junior wide receiver and punt returner Austin Kightlinger. A couple of plays later, the Rams were back in the endzone after Rhodes connected with Kightlinger to put Northside up 14 points with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter.

Rhodes threw his third touchdown pass midway through the first quarter when he connected with Green, who ran a wheel route out of the backfield for a 24-yard touchdown to make it 21-0 with 6:12 left in the first quarter.

Northside scored two more touchdowns in the first half, with Kightlinger picking up his second and third touchdowns, coming from a 15-yard touchdown reception from Rhodes, and a 45-yard punt return, which made it a 35-0 game at the end of the first quarter.

The Rams’ defense played lights out all night, making it impossible for the Bulldogs to gain momentum. Northside forced Montevallo to several three-and-outs. This defense has had a nice start to the season, only allowing six points, with those coming in the Rams’ season opener victory against West Blocton.

Northside’s offense scored again in the second quarter when Rhodes connected with Senior wide receiver Evan Taylor for his fifth passing touchdown in Friday’s win. This made the score 42-0, which remained the score going into halftime.

The second half saw the Rams pull their starters and chew the clock down, which still didn’t stop Northside from adding two more scores to make it a 56-0 game.

Much like the first half, Montevallo could not get anything going and was held scoreless for the entirety of the game. This gave Northside its second consecutive shutout, with the Rams holding Cordova scoreless last week in its 42-0 win.

Northside will improve to 3-0, while Montevallo falls to 1-2 on the season. The Rams will host Selma next Friday for their homecoming, while the Bulldogs have a bye week next Friday but will be back in action at home against Demopolis on September 12.
