The dust has barely settled on the New York Jets‘ Week 1 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In what ended up a late 34-32 loss for the Jets, there was plenty to takeaway from what went down on the field. The offense, defense and special teams all impacted the outcome.

A lot… on offense, surprisingly. Most in New York expected to see strong defensive efforts keeping the Jets in games during the 2025 season.

It might be the opposite with the way Week 1 looked.

The Jets ran the ball well as Breece Hall put up 107 yards on the ground. Fields scored twice with his legs and threw for 218 yards. Of those, No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson hauled in seven grabs for 95 yards with a touchdown.

The Jets inspired optimism on offense in their season opener.

As prior teased, the Jets got the job done on offense. The defense and special teams, in a combined effort, allowed 34 points to the Steelers and their former QB in Aaron Rodgers.

Specifically, Rodgers had four touchdown passes. Regardless of anyone pointing out that cornerback Sauce Gardner played well, it does not matter when 34 points are put up on the board.

Head coach Aaron Glenn must stress one thing following this loss: There are no moral victories.

The Jets have had plenty of those throughout the years. If Glenn really wants to change the culture around One Jets Drive? That’s what he must emphasis this upcoming week.

But Glenn does seem like the kind of coach that will do just that.
