The Washington Commanders (1-0) head to Green Bay on a short week to face the Packers (1-0) in the Week 2 edition of Thursday Night Football. The Commanders and Packers are one of two marquee matchups of the week, alongside the Super Bowl rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
Both teams are coming off dominant home wins over a divisional opponent. Washington defeated the New York Giants 21-6, holding them to 231 total yards, while finishing over 400 yards of total offense, including 220 rushing yards. The Packers defeated the Detroit Lions 27-13, holding the defending NFC North champions to only 246 total yards of offense.

As we turn the page from Week 1 to Week 2, here are five things to know about Thursday’s meeting between two longtime NFC foes.
All-time series
Green Bay leads the all-time series 20-16-1. The two teams first met back in 1932, with Green Bay winning 21-0. They’ve met three times in the postseason, with the Packers holding a 2-1 edge. The Commanders won the last meeting, on Oct. 23, 2022, as Taylor Heinicke outdueled Aaron Rodgers in a 23-21 Washington victory.
Commanders’ Thursday record
The Commanders have played on Thursday 27 times and, as you’d expect, do not have a great record. Washington is 10-17 on Thursday, which, of course, includes Thanksgiving Day games. Washington’s only Thursday game last season was its first game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which came down to the wire. The Commanders’ previous two Thursday games before last season were both unmemorable matchups against the Chicago Bears.

Long drought at Lambeau
For many Washington fans, the Commanders have never won at Lambeau Field in their lifetimes. Washington’s last win at Green Bay came back in 1988, when current Washington executive Doug Williams was the starting quarterback. Williams completed 25 of 42 passes for 225 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Kelvin Bryant rushed for 140 yards and had 70 yards receiving. Art Monk and Gary Clark combined for nine receptions, 102 yards and a touchdown.
Micah Parsons Problem
Credit to Brian Baldinger for the headline. How impactful was Micah Parsons in his first game for the Packers?
The Commanders know Parsons better than anyone in the NFL, maybe outside of Dallas. Parsons has more sacks against Washington than against any other team. Also, Washington’s head coach (Dan Quinn) and defensive coordinator (Joe Whitt Jr.) were with Parsons for his first three years in Dallas. Quinn and Parsons remain close.

Commanders’ pressure rates
Those are ridiculous numbers, and precisely why you shouldn’t take the number of sacks as the authority on quarterback pressure. Russell Wilson had no chance on Sunday. Washington pressured him up the middle and on the edges. Green Bay’s offensive line will present a bigger challenge; this rebuilt defensive line could be a team strength if it remains healthy.
