Ever since the New York Giants made Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, he and veteran defensive end Brian Burns have been challenging each other.

It’s been a bit of a friendly rivalry, however. You could tell by the way the two interacted all through the offseason workouts and training camp.

That’s why on Sunday, in the Giants’ 21-6 loss down in Washington, Carter and Burns had another moment, adding to their competitive relationship.

When Burns came on the field to relieve Carter, he had to physically shove him towards the Giants’ sideline to get him off the field.

“That wasn’t nothing,” Burns told The Athletic after the game. “That was just, I had to come in and get him — I love Abdul. But he’s a dawg. He doesn’t want to come out of the game. It’s just like little brother-big brother. It wasn’t nothing serious. He just didn’t want to come out of the game because he’s a fucking baller. I’m not gonna lie. Y’all ain’t seen him yet. Kid’s got dawg.”

Burns had two sacks in the game, and Carter had a half-sack and a blocked punt. They were probably the only two Giants who had positive games on Sunday.
