GREEN BAY (WLUK) — With just four days between games to begin the season, the Packers are in crunch time to flush Sunday’s season opening win and focus on Thursday’s week two matchup with the Commanders. A quick turnaround that requires careful attention.

“For everybody on the team, a short week is tough on your body,” said quarterback Jordan Love. “To go from playing that Sunday game to that Thursday game it’s how can I get my body back as fast as possible because it’s just not the norm. It’s not a normal week.”

“Get your legs back underneath you, get a lot of recovery in, you only have a few days to get ready for the next team,” said linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. “Everything speeds up.”

A short week ultimately means less time to recover. Defensive lineman Micah Parsons played 29 snaps on Sunday, more than both he and head coach Matt LaFleur anticipated. But his willingness to compete wasn’t going to stop him from making an impact.

“We can run gassers, we can be in practice, if you give me these plays, we can run to the ball,” said Parsons. “But at the end of the day, I was like ‘you got to let me push through these things. You got to let me get tired and get worn out out there so that way I can become better and get better from it. That’s when they were like, “okay, your reps can go up.” Sometimes you got to fight for your own right to play.”

“You know they had a range they wanted him to get to because the guy, we’ve barely known him for a week,” said defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. “He hasn’t practiced much so we had to take care of him too.”

On Sunday, Love said there was a still a little something left out on the field. And despite the convincing win, they want to make sure there’s no meat left on the bone this time around.

“I think that was the thing that was a little disappointing was that we didn’t execute to that same level on third down,” said Love. “At the same time just every drive we didn’t take advantage and go put that nail in the coffin.”

“The desire to want more,” said LaFleur. “We go out there and we have a third and one and we got stuffed for like a–I don’t know what we lost on the play. There’s definitely room for improvement I would say.”

Kickoff between the Packers and Commanders on Thursday night is set for 7:15 p.m. CT at Lambeau Field.
