This week, it was announced that former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu will serve as Kansas City’s official ‘Drum Honoree’ during the Week 2 regular season home opener, which will surely energize fans at Arrowhead Stadium.
Mathieu recently appeared on the Chiefs’ Week 1 YouTube broadcast shortly after announcing his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons. The ‘Honey Badger’ was an impactful part of Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIV-winning team in 2019. He began his career in 2013 with the Arizona Cardinals before joining Kansas City and playing his last few seasons for the New Orleans Saints.

Mathieu spent three seasons in Kansas City, earning Pro Bowl selections twice, first-team All-Pro honors in 2020, and second-team honors in 2019. He started 47 games, recording 213 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, four fumble recoveries, 13 interceptions, 27 passes defended, and two defensive touchdowns.
