The Carolina Panthers opened practice Wednesday for Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals and released their first injury report of the week. The best news for them was left tackle Ikem Ekwonu practicing after missing Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

Wharton was limited to 20 snaps (30 percent) before suffering the hamstring injury in Sunday’s opener against the Jaguars. Head coach Dave Canales said Monday he is expected to be out for multiple weeks.

Ekwonu was inactive Sunday after having an emergency appendectomy on Aug. 24. After practice Wednesday, Canales said, “He had a great day today. We got him all the way through indy (individual drills) out into some team drills. We didn’t feel like we could throw him out there for a full practice quite yet. But he looked great, he looked strong, he was asking for more. We told him, tomorrow, we’re gonna pad up and that’s gonna be a great day to keep building on this.” Yosh Nijman started Sunday and allowed multiple pressures.
