Christian McCaffrey put a scare into a lot of San Francisco 49ers fans and fantasy football players in Week 1.

He popped up on last week’s injury report on Thursday with an unexplained calf injury, then didn’t practice Friday. In the end, it didn’t matter, as CMC played in Sunday’s season opener.
On Wednesday of this week, McCaffrey opened up about the injury.
He revealed that he never planned on missing out on the matchup with the Seahawks in Week 1.
“It was nothing serious,” McCaffrey said, via 49ers Webzone. “It never was. I knew I was going to play. I just wanted to be smart with it.”

McCaffrey played early and often against Seattle. He was on the field for 58 snaps, and on 31 of those, he touched the ball en route to 142 yards from scrimmage.

This week, CMC isn’t viewed as an injury concern.
That’s the rest of the 49ers who are hurting.
Brock Purdy is a big doubt to play Sunday, which would press Mac Jones into QB duty.

George Kittle is on Injured Reserve, meaning Luke Farrell (blocking) and Jake Tonges (receiving) will split up most of his tight end duties in the meantime.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is battling some pain, too.
Last year, it was McCaffrey’s early absence that sent the ‘Niners spiraling. This year, he’s on the field, and it’ll be up to him in large part to prevent another nightmare season from taking place in the Bay Area.
