Republic’s Theo Mackie, Greg Moore discuss Cardinals’ win over Saints
The Arizona Cardinals got their season underway with a road win over the New Orleans Saints. Here are key takeaways from an encouraging afternoon.
The San Francisco 49ers‘ coach Kyle Shanahan told the media on Wednesday, Sept. 10, their starting quarterback Brock Purdy is a “long shot” to play in their Week 2 matchup at the New Orleans Saints.
Purdy, a former Arizona high school football star at Gilbert Perry, missed practice on Sept. 10.
He’s dealing with left shoulder and toe injuries from San Francisco’s 17-13 win at NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 7.
Purdy went 26-for-35 for 277 yards, threw two touchdowns and two interceptions in the victory.
Shanahan added that Purdy could be out for multiple games. The 49ers’ backup Mac Jones is in line to replace Purdy.
The Saints’ starting QB is Spencer Rattler, who rose to fame as one of the nation’s top recruits at Phoenix Pinnacle before he graduated in 2019.
Rattler and the Saints lost their season home opener to the Arizona Cardinals, 20-13, on Sept. 7. He was 27-of-46 for 214 yards in that game.
