On Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf will face the Seattle Seahawks, the team he spent the first six years of his career with, for the first time. But he says it’s just another game.

It would be understandable if Metcalf had extra motivation to play at a high level in front of his old team, but the 27-year-old said Thursday that he’s treating it like any other matchup.

“No extra juice this week,” Metcalf said, via the team’s official website. “It’s just another team on the schedule that just so happens to be playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. We’ve got to go out there and do everything that we can to try to win.”

Metcalf had four receptions for 83 yards in his Steelers debut, a 34-32 win over the New York Jets. The Seahawks, who opened their season with a 17-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, traded Metcalf to the Steelers in March and the two-time Pro Bowler quickly signed a five-year, $150 million deal with Pittsburgh. Despite surprisingly being shipped out of Seattle, Metcalf maintained that there is no added motivation for Sunday’s showdown in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are three-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook.

“It’s just another football game. Prepare for it like any other football game, because after this, you’ve got to prepare for the next opponent. The next step on the schedule. It’s just how it is. It’s not different at all,” Metcalf said.

Metcalf was a second-round pick of the Seahawks in 2019 and he caught 438 passes for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns during his six-year stint with the franchise. Sunday’s game isn’t just a reunion with his old team, it’s also his first time playing at home as a Steeler. When asked if he was excited to play in front of his home fans and some of his old fans, Metcalf said he’s just focused on those Terrible Towels waving at Acrisure Stadium.

“It’s about us at the end of the day,” Metcalf said. “Looking forward to playing in front of the Pittsburgh Steelers fans.”
