The fourth Friday of the high school football regular season featured dominant wins for the Adams Central Flying Jets and South Adams Starfires, while a strong start wasn’t enough for the Bellmont Braves in Ossian.
A scoreless first quarter in Portland did little to derail the Jets on their way to a 1-0 start in the Allen County Athletic Conference and a 4-0 beginning to the season. Vance Miller rushed for three touchdowns as Adams Central breezed to a 40-0 win over Jay County.
South Adams started ACAC play a week ago with a heartbreaking loss at Bluffton. The Starfires had no time to dwell on that defeat, however, as a tough Heritage team made the trip to Berne on Friday.
Clearly no lingering disappointment from last week was felt by the Starfires. They rolled to a 42-14 win over Heritage to get back to .500 on the year.
While the losing streak at Bellmont goes on, the Braves showed fight in Wells County Friday. Bellmont scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half and led 14-13 as halftime drew close.
But a couple of touchdowns for Norwell late in the second quarter flipped the momentum. The Knights came out of halftime and outscored the Braves 21-7 to lock up a 48-21 win.
