Former Chicago Bears defensive line coach Travis Smith in late April sold his five-bedroom, 4,304-square-foot house in southwest Waukegan for $1.45 million.
Smith was hired as the Bears’ defensive line coach in 2022. A 15-year coach in the NFL, Smith left the team at the end of January amid a variety of coaching changes, and he now is the defensive run game coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.
In 2022, Smith paid $950,000 for the house, which is inside Waukegan’s city limits but has a Libertyville mailing address. It’s also in a neighborhood where other Bears assistant coaches have lived previously.
The house appears to have been listed off-market, as it was placed in the real estate multiple listing service as having closed but with no asking price. Built in 1992 and situated on a 1.19-acre property in the Nickels and Dimes neighborhood, the house has 4-1/2 bathrooms, a living room with a two-story custom fireplace, a private office on the main level, a first-floor primary bedroom suite with his and hers walk-in closets and an updated en-suite bathroom, and a kitchen with a Sub-Zero refrigerator, two refrigerated drawers, two freezer drawers, a wine refrigerator and a six-burner Wolf Range.
According to listing information, Smith and his wife, Christina, finished the basement in 2023, adding a bar that doubles as a second kitchen, complete with a full-sized refrigerator, a dishwasher and a convection oven. The basement also has a private bedroom and bath, an infrared sauna and a hidden storage room concealed behind a secret bookshelf door. The house also has a three-car garage.
Listing agent Courtney Glattly declined to comment on the sale.
The house had a $32,747 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.
