Through three weeks, it’s hard to name a wide receiver in college football who has taken a bigger step than Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.

Through two seasons at Michigan State and Washington, Bernard totaled 547 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Bernard followed head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama after DeBoer replaced former head coach Nick Saban after Saban’s retirement.

In one season and three games at Alabama, Bernard has totaled 1,069 yards and five touchdowns. So far in 2025, Bernard has caught 15 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns – Bernard’s career-high in receiving touchdowns for a single season.

In the last two games, Bernard has scored four total touchdowns – three receiving and one rushing. He’s emerged as Alabama’s top weapon at wide receiver this season, taking pressure off of sophomore Ryan Williams and adding pressure to opposing defenses to try to cover two highly talented receivers on the Crimson Tide’s roster. NFL draft analysts have started to take notice.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller says the wide receiver one race for the 2026 NFL draft is wide open, and that Bernard is “emerging in the mix.”

“He has been the best thing about Alabama football so far this season,” Miller wrote in his week three NFL draft questions story. “Scouts had him with a fringe Round 1-2 grade over the summer. But to me, he’s right in the WR1 convo with [Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson] and has a game very similar to Emeka Egbuka as a college receiver. At 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, he is already a high-end route runner with good physicality and strength. Bernard had two scores in Saturday’s blowout win over Wisconsin – one on the ground and another through the air.”

While there’s still plenty of time until the 2026 NFL draft in Pittsburgh, Bernard has big opportunities to continue to rise on draft boards as he helps Alabama pursue a return to the College Football Playoffs.
