The Titans paid an overdue bill the team felt it owed defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons.

According to multiple reports, the Titans paid him $632,529, in the form of a bonus, for the 17th game of the 2023 season. Simmons signed a four-year, $94 million extension in April 2023, which didn’t account for a 17th game at the time it was signed.

The contract revision is the first of its kind in the NFL, though other players, such as Bills quarterback Josh Allen, had extensions that didn’t take into account a 17th game. The NFL added a 17th regular-season game beginning in the 2021 season.

The money is considered an added bonus, or a revision, to Simmons’ current contract and comes after Simmons reportedly hired a new agent, Todd France of Athletes First.

The three-time Pro Bowl pick and two-time All-Pro has 315 tackles (50 for a loss), 32 1/2 sacks and six fumble recoveries in 86 games spanning seven seasons with the Titans.

The Titans are coming off a 33-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 14, which pushed their record to 0-2. Their next game is Sept. 21 against the Indianapolis Colts.
