Despite a lackluster start to his 2025 NFL season in Week 1, it appears that 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams still is good at his job.
Per Pro Football Focus, Williams was one of 11 players at his position with a minimum of 20 snaps to allow zero quarterback pressures in Week 2, providing stellar protection for Mac Jones in San Francisco’s 26-21 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Williams’ strong performance was especially encouraging considering he entered Sunday questionable to play with a bone bruise in his knee.
It also laid some doubts to rest after the 11-time Pro Bowl selection’s subpar showing in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, when he allowed six pressures, his most in a single game as a 49er.
Neither injury nor ineffectiveness plagued Williams in Week 2. On 45 pass blocking snaps, he posted a 90.0 grade and received the highest overall grade (83.4) of any San Francisco offensive player.
Even with Week 1’s below-average showing factored in, Williams ranks as the 19th-best offensive tackle in the NFL through two weeks, a ranking that figures to rise if his game in New Orleans is any indication.
Behind Williams, Jones enjoyed one of his best games as a pro quarterback, throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
