The Joe Burrow injury has created an active-roster opportunity for a former Denver Broncos quarterback.

After losing Burrow to a toe injury, the Cincinnati Bengals made a trio of quarterback moves on Tuesday. First, the Bengals placed Burrow on short-term injured reserve. To fill his old spot on the active roster, Cincinnati promoted ex-Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien from the practice squad to the active roster.

Additionally, the Bengals signed quarterbacks Mike White and Sean Clifford to their practice squad. Jake Browning is now set to start for Cincinnati with Rypien serving as the No. 2 while White and Clifford provide additional depth.

Rypien, 29, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State in 2019. He spent the first four years of his career in Denver, going 2-1 as a fill-in starter.

The Broncos are set to host the Bengals on Monday Night Football in Week 4.

Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, the Minnesota Vikings promoted tight end Nick Vannett from the practice squad to the active roster, the Tennessee Titans worked out pass rusher Andrew Farmer, the Atlanta Falcons promoted wide receiver David Sills from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, the Washington Commanders signed running back Chase Edmonds to their practice squad and the New York Jets worked out safety Tanner McCalister.
