The Denver Broncos‘ decision to let running back Javonte Williams walk during free agency this spring could land the team an extra pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Williams landed with the Dallas Cowboys and he’s off to a solid start, totaling 194 yards from scrimmage and scoring three touchdowns while playing 74% of the offensive snaps through two games. Williams’ contract ($3 million) and playing time have him qualified for the NFL’s compensatory draft pick formula.

The NFL awards comp picks each spring to clubs that lost more than they gained in free agency the previous year. If Williams continues to have this kind of role in Dallas, OverTheCap.com estimates the Broncos will receive a seventh-round comp pick for next year’s NFL draft. That would give Denver eight total picks in 2026.
Broncos 2026 NFL draft picks
The team’s original sixth-round pick was traded to the New York Jets in exchange for defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers in 2024.
Denver used its first two picks in this year’s draft to select cornerback Jahdae Barron and running back RJ Harvey. The 2026 NFL draft will be held in Pittsburgh from April 23-25.
