As the Chicago Bears prepare to be without top cornerback Jaylon Johnson for the foreseeable future, and nickel back Kyler Gordon having been unable to play yet this season, the team’s secondary is dismantled.

Looking forward, veteran Tyrique Stevenson will be tasked with playing a major role in the secondary, and that has been a big issue for him early this season. But just how bad has the third-year cornerback been? It’s worse than you could imagine.

Stevenson has become the biggest target for opposing quarterbacks, and for good reason. Not only is Stevenson being targeted by opponents, but quarterbacks are nearly perfect when targeting him, as he is giving up a 158.3 passer rating when being targeted.

When you break that down, he’s allowed seven receptions on eight targets for 124 yards (15.5 yards per attempt) and one touchdown. In fact, that 158.3 passer rating is considered perfect.

During this offseason’s overhaul of the coaching staff, Chicago brought in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and defensive backs coach Al Harris, who many believed would turn this unit around. But after the first two games, they have turned into a laughing stock of a defensive unit.

Not only does Stevenson have to turn it around for himself, but he’ll be a key member of the Bears secondary moving forward this season due to injuries to Johnson and Terell Smith, who was lost to a knee injury during preseason.
