Packers’ Jordan Love drops subtle hint at breakout for explosive rookie after Jayden Reed injury originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Green Bay Packers have started this season as strong as anyone could have hoped. Green Bay boasts one of the most stout defenses in the league, and the offense is beginning to find its rhythm with Jordan Love leading the way. The bold words of Matthew Golden from the summer may not seem so bold anymore.

“Definitely want to go get that [Lombardi] trophy, man,” Golden told KPRC’s Aaron Wilson. “That’s the question mark we got in our team room is just filling in that blank. That’s the last thing we need in that team room and, for us, that’s all we talk about at practice is getting that trophy.”

Golden was projected to be a major contributor for the Packers, even as a rookie. However, he hasn’t gotten off to the best start, and there’s been some pressure mounting around his name. Still, many believe he’s on the verge of finding his footing.

“The breakout game is coming. You know Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love see it on tape too,” Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote.

If that statement wasn’t convincing enough, Love himself made it clear that Golden will be getting more opportunities—especially in light of Jayden Reed’s injury last week against the Washington Commanders.

“Jordan Love went through his two missed deep balls to Matthew Golden and took blame for both misses. Also added that because of Jayden Reed’s injury… ‘There’s definitely gonna be opps for other guys, but definitely M.G.’” Packers insider Matt Schneidman wrote.

This is a promising sign for Golden heading into Week 3 on the road in Cleveland. The rookie looks ready to have his breakout performance—it feels like it’s just around the corner. Love knows the rookie is ready, and he’ll be looking his way.

Golden is a speedy receiver who could look to stretch the field early. It seems like just one big play could spark a surge in confidence and production for the young wideout.
