FRISCO — Troy Aikman’s admiration for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott might only be matched by his high hopes for him.
“I’ve said it before: I love Dak. There’s nothing I’d rather see than see him go on and win a Super Bowl and win multiple Super Bowls, and win more than me, and [Roger Staubach] and all of us combined, if possible,” said Aikman, who has three Super Bowl wins to his name. “Because he’s that type of guy, and he represents himself and the organization, and really our city so well.”
Prescott was asked about the praise and the hopes that he could win more than five Super Bowls, as Aikman and Staubach combined to total for the Cowboys.
“I’ve got to get going then,” said Prescott, who has won two playoff games in his career. “I don’t know if I have that many years left. I’ve got to win now.”

Five Super Bowls may be a little lofty for Prescott, who turned 31 this past offseason. He is etching his name in the franchise history book in other ways, however. Prescott became the team’s all-time completions leader (2,838) in Sunday’s 40-37 overtime win over the New York Giants. With a victory against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Prescott will tie Tony Romo (78) for the third-most wins by a quarterback in team history.
Prescott is also 2,197 yards from tying Romo for the most passing yards in franchise history (34,183).
While those are markers of success, Prescott said he doesn’t think about them.
“I think for the main reasons: I’m not anywhere close in my mind to being done,” Prescott said. “If that was on the forefront of my mind, I may look up and say, ‘Dang, what else do I need? Or what do I need to get to?’ But that’s not on my mind by any means. Never really has been. I don’t know if it ever will, to be honest with you. I just stay present, stay where I am. Records and all those types of things, they are meant to be broken. I’m just the next man up. As I said, just trying to be the best that I can and I know if I do that, I’ll have a good chance at all of it.”
All of it being, of course, Super Bowl wins. While five may feel like a lofty goal, especially at this point in his career, Prescott appreciates the support of Aikman and Staubach.
“Means the world. Honestly, super grateful to be the quarterback of this organization, understanding those who’ve come before me, and then obviously … getting to meet them, and then now, doing galas with them, getting to hang out with these men. To be able to call them friends and knowing they’ve supported me and have let me know that from the beginning, means the world,” Prescott said. “Super thankful for them. And I want to do exactly what he says, but I got to get started now.”
