FOXBOROUGH – Mike Vrabel didn’t play with Julian Edelman as a Patriot. Their paths didn’t cross. But he certainly coached against him.
As the defensive coordinator in Houston, and head coach in Tennessee, Vrabel had to figure out how to defend the Tom Brady’s go-to guy, who will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame on Saturday.
During his Friday press conference, Vrabel was asked for his recollections of Edelman and what he brought to the game.
“Just a pure competitor, just a pure warrior out on the field, just toughness, great play demeanor and really willing to do anything to help the football team,” Vrabel said. “So excited for him this weekend, his family and his journey.
“We talk about everybody’s journey to the NFL and it looks a little different for everybody, but very worthy to be in the Hall of Fame here.”
Edelman was fitted for his red jacket in a ceremony at the Patriot’s Hall of Fame Friday. Both Edelman and former Patriots coach Bill Parcells will be enshrined in a 4 p.m. ceremony, which is open to the public, in Patriot Place Plaza, just outside the Hall.
