Giants vs. Chiefs scouting report
Chiefs’ keys to victory: Kansas City is 0-2 for the first time since Patrick Mahomes became its starting quarterback. The Chiefs had not lost a one-possession game since Week 16 in 2023 against the Raiders. But that’s two straight one-possession losses to open the new campaign now. Mahomes is going to want to put on a show. Chris Jones was angry in the waning moments of Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. That’s the last thing the Giants need is Jones going back to his All-Pro form for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. WR Xavier Worthy may return from injury.
Giants’ keys to victory: The Giants are 0-2 for the 10th time in 14 seasons, spanning five different head coaches (Tom Coughlin, Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge and Brian Daboll). If there’s been a way to lose, the Giants have made a habit of finding it. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is under intense scrutiny with the way he schematically attacked – or didn’t – the end of regulation, allowing the Cowboys to drive with just 25 seconds remaining for the game-tying 64-yard field goal. Can Russell Wilson turn back the clock again? Will we see more of Jaxson Dart?
Giants vs. Chiefs matchup to watch
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce vs. Giants S Jevon Holland and ILB Bobby Okereke. Kelce let a Mahomes pass go through his hands in the red zone on Sunday and the Eagles picked it off, turning the interception into a game changer. Holland and Okereke have been inconsistent. At their best, they can impact the game and should be able to help neutralize the future Hall of Famer. If Kelce and Mahomes get going, you know the sea of red expected at the Meadowlands is going to be thrilled.
Giants vs. Chiefs prediction
The Giants might get a somewhat warmer welcome at MetLife this Sunday night than they would have if things continued the downward spiral, especially on offense. But, is this really going to happen? The Giants are going to beat the Chiefs? Mahomes. Andy Reid. Kelce. And with Taylor Swift expected in attendance for the first time since she sold out the place for The Eras Tour. Big Blue is going to need everything to go its way to have a chance. Chiefs 24, Giants 20
