NORTHPORT, Ala. — Northside (5-0, 3-0) stays undefeated and earns a 49-17 revenge win over Shelby County (3-2, 1-2), after the Wildcats defeated the Rams 35-28 last season.
Northside’s physical play, on both sides of the ball, proved too much for Shelby County.
Shelby County’s offense began the game strong, picking up solid gains on the ground, primarily through running back Ethan Hall. However, Northside’s defense would hold strong, holding the Wildcats’ offense to three on the initial drive — a sight that would grow to be a formality towards the end of the game.
As Jackson Rhodes and the Northside offense took the field, they immediately took control. The Rams scored 21 unanswered following the Widlcats’ initial field goal.
Jackson Rhodes found Austin Knightliner on a short redzone throw for their first score of the night, followed by two strong rushing touchdowns from running back Bennett Green to propel the Rams out to a 21-3 lead as the first half began to dwindle.
The Wildcats seemed to find some light at the end of the first half as quarterback Sawyer Horton connected with Dominic Woods for a long touchdown pass to enter the locker room 21-10.
Coming out of the half, the Northside offense seemed sluggish, going three-and-out on its initial drive of the half.
Shelby County took advantage of the Rams’ slow start, capitalizing with an Ethan Hall rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-17.
Shelby County’s defense continued to take advantage of a sluggish Northside offense, which dealt with pass protection issues, picking up multiple sacks and a pair of stops.
The Wildcats’ offense could never find the spark they needed to take the lead. Allowing the Rams’ offense to settle down as Jackson Rhodes and Austin Knichtlinger connected on a 72-yard pass to put the game to bed.
Northside rattled off 21 more points to subdue the Wildcats, taking home a 49-17 win.
Northside (5-0, 3-0) returns to action next week at Lincoln (2-2, 1-1)*
