The Arizona Cardinals announced roster moves Saturday ahead of their Week 3 game against the San Francisco 49ers. One of them suggests they might play without starting left tackle Paris Johnson.

The Cardinals announced Saturday that they elevated defensive lineman Anthony Goodlow and offensive lineman Jake Curhan from the practice squad to the active roster as standard elevations.

With L.J. Collier landing on injured reserve this week, Goodlow will be the sixth defensive line in the rotation.

Curhan’s elevation is more interesting. It suggests that Johnson, questionable to play with a knee injury, won’t be available.

Why?

The first two weeks of the season with Johnson playing, the Cardinals had tackle Kelvin Beachum, tackle Josh Fryar and center Jon Gaines as the three active backups. If Johnson is playing, they wouldn’t need Curhan. If Johnson can’t play, then Beachum would get the start. They would need three backups. Curhan plays tackle and guard. Fryar is a tackle, but presumably can also play guard, based on his being active the first two weeks of the season.

Barring a nesws report, we won’t know for sure until the Cardinals release their inactive list 90 minutes ahead of kickoff.
