Mike Vrabel secured his first career victory as head coach of the New England Patriots last week.
Now, ahead of this Sunday’s showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Patriots are vying to hold a winning record through the first three weeks of the NFL season for the first time since 2020.
In the Patriots’ Week 2 victory over the Miami Dolphins on the road, a 33-27 final, second-year quarterback Drake Maye played a turnover-free game, completing 19 of 23 passes for 230 yards while tallying 3 total touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing). Linebacker Marte Maru snagged a crucial interception near midfield with 2:21 remaining to preserve the New England’s narrow fourth-quarter lead after the teams exchanged punt- and kick-return touchdowns on the two possessions prior.
Star cornerback Christian Gonzales, who has missed New England’s first two games with a hamstring injury, was listed as a limited participant in practice this week, as were Mapu (neck), linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson (hamstring), tackle Morgan Moses (foot) and linebacker Harold Landry (foot).
On Friday afternoon, Vrabel said Gonzales and linebacker Keion White (illness) are questionable to play vs. Pittsburgh (1-1).
The Patriots (1-1) also announced this week that they will wear their popular red ‘Pat Patriot’ jerseys for Sunday’s game.
