The Seahawks will have leading receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for their Week 3 game against the Saints. The Pro-Bowl pass catcher, who has eclipsed 100 yards in each of Seattle’s first two games, was added to the injury report Saturday as questionable due to illness, but he is active.
The Seahawks will be without four players due to injury, as cornerback Devon Witherspoon, safety Nick Emmanwori, safety Julian Love and running back Zach Charbonnet are all inactive after being listed as doubtful on Friday’s injury report.
With two safeties sidelined, the Seahawks signed Jerrick Reed II off the practice squad Saturday and elevated safety D’Anthony Bell from the practice squad, and both are active as expected. Also elevated from the practice squad was rookie Jacardia Wright, who will give the Seahawks added depth behind Kenneth Walker III and George Holani.
Rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe is active this week, keeping open the possibility of the Seahawks getting him involved in the offense. Milroe was active in Week 1, and had one carry, then was inactive in Week 2, dressing as the team’s emergency third quarterback.
With two safeties out, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said to expect a significant role for Ty Okada, who may get the start along with regular starter Coby Bryant. With Witherspoon out, Derion Kendrick is expected to again play nickel corner, as he did last week, playing 42 snaps on defense while recording a key interception in the end zone.
