Najee Harris’ season is reportedly over.

The Los Angeles Chargers running back left their 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos with a non-contact Achilles injury on Sunday afternoon at SoFi Stadium. He’s expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season due to the injury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Harris took a step in the backfield at the start of a play in the second quarter when his left ankle gave out as he planted. Harris didn’t make contact with anybody, and nobody was around him when he went down.

He was clearly in a lot of pain when he hit the field, and he was seen pounding the turf repeatedly after the play ended as the team’s medical staff came out to help him. Harris was eventually carted off the field.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game that Harris did in fact suffer an Achilles injury. Testing reportedly confirmed that suspicion, causing Harris to miss the rest of the season, per Rapoport.

Harris had six carries for 28 yards in the game when he went down. The 27-year-old, who is in his first season with the Chargers after striking a one-year deal with the franchise this past offseason, entered Sunday with just 33 rushing yards on nine carries so far this season. He was questionable to start the season due to an eye injury from a fireworks accident earlier this summer, but he was cleared to play in time for their season-opener.

The Chargers capped that drive with a 3-yard touchdown run from Omarion Hampton. That put them up 10-0 just before the break, though Bo Nix responded and hit Courtland Sutton for a 52-yard score of their own to cut the deficit to just three points at halftime.

The Chargers tied it back up late in the fourth quarter after Justin Herbert hit Keenan Allen for a 20-yard touchdown, and then they kicked a game-winning 43-yard field goal to escape with the victory. That pushed the Chargers to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
