Through the first three weeks of the 2025 NFL season, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders hasn’t come close to even sniffing the field.
So far, the Browns have had Joe Flacco as their starter with Dillon Gabriel as their primary backup. Sanders has been the No. 3 emergency quarterback on the roster.
It has been revealed that Cleveland does not plan to play Sanders this season. However, anything can still happen and the young signal caller is simply focused on working hard and remaining ready for any opportunity that he is given.

No one can predict an NFL season. There is still a very legitimate chance that Sanders could find himself on the field at some point during his rookie year.

With that being said, his dad, Deion Sanders, spoke out with a very strong prediction about the 2025 season for his son. He believes the younger Sanders will play as a rookie for the Browns.
During an appearance on the “New Heights” podcast with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, Sanders made his prediction about his son’s future.
“Be patient and be ready,” he said. “You got to be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you’re going to know. And it’s coming up. I got a prediction. I ain’t telling nobody. I got a feeling when it’s going to go down. But it’s going to go down this year. … He’s going to get a shot.”
In preseason play, Sanders showed flashes of impressive potential. He was expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft for a reason. There is no question that he has the talent and potential to be a high-end NFL starting quarterback.
However, there was obvious work that needed to be done on his game. For now, Cleveland has opted to not play him, but that can change.

Sanders continuing to focus on improving his game and handling himself with maturity is a great start. If the Browns’ offense continues to struggle, Gabriel will be given a chance to play. Should he struggle too, it’s possible that Sanders would be given a shot.
Obviously, Deion believes that his son will play this season. It will be interesting to see if his prediction ends up becoming a reality later in the year.
