The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ Week 4 matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings just got more interesting — as starting QB J.J. McCarthy has been ruled out of Sunday’s contest.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday, Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell announced McCarthy wouldn’t play against the Steelers in Ireland this Sunday, with veteran QB Carson Wentz tasked with leading Minnesota for the second week in a row. O’Connell also touched on what the future looks like for the former first-round quarterback:

“First and foremost, he’s got to get healthy,” O’Connell told reporters. “And then, I don’t think it’s one of those things where it’s, hey, he’s healthy the night before a game, we’re going to throw him out there and say, ‘Hey, go figure it out’ type of thing.”
The absence doesn’t necessarily offer Pittsburgh an advantage, as the Vikings soundly handled the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3, blowing out the Steelers’ AFC North rivals 48-10.
Minnesota’s defense could pose a huge problem for a struggling Steelers offense — one that’s been outgained in yardage and time of possession in every game to start the season, despite a solid 2-1 record.
