Adam Prentice’s three-game trial run at fullback was a success.
After placing fullback Michael Burton on season-ending injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the Denver Broncos signed Prentice to their practice squad last month. NFL players can be elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster three times per season, and Denver quickly used up Prentice’s three elevations through their first three games.
Now that he’s out of elevations, Prentice had to remain on the practice squad or be fully promoted to the active roster. The Broncos made their decision on Wednesday, opting to promote Prentice to the 53-man roster.
Denver had an open spot on the active roster after placing linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) on injured reserve last week. Prentice now holds the spot that became available when Greenlaw went on IR.
To fill Prentice’s former spot on the practice squad, the Broncos signed cornerback A. J. Woods, a second-year defensive back who was on the Philadelphia Eagles‘ practice squad when they won the Super Bowl last season.
