The New England Patriots announced that they have signed tight end Gee Scott Jr. and offensive lineman Royce Newman to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Scott originally signed with the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent, before he was caught up in the massive round of releases at the end of training camp. The team obviously liked him enough to keep tabs on him just in case an opportunity came around to bring him back.

Scott, a former Ohio State standout, will have an opportunity to learn and grow in the Patriots’ offense with two talented veteran tight ends in Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper.

Newman is a former fourth-round draft pick out of Ole Miss. He has spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals. In four years in the NFL, he has 24 starts and 52 game appearances.

The Patriots are still looking to create depth along the offensive front, and the 28-year-old offensive lineman would give the team another experienced option on the practice squad.
