Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders certainly has no shortage of confidence.
Although the polarizing prospect out of Colorado remains third on coach Kevin Stefanski’s QB depth chart behind veteran starter Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, the son of Deion emulated his famous father’s swagger via a recent interview with ESPN Cleveland.
In the roughly three-minute interview from the Browns locker room, Sanders was asked to weigh in on recent comments by dad Deion, who said on the “New Heights” podcast that he predicts Shedeur will play for the Browns at some point this season.

The younger Sanders said he’s trying to “focus on each and every day” and stay “locked in” even though he’s third on the depth chart, saying he can’t let that placement dictate his mindset.
Sanders also said he’s “ready to play right now” if his number is called, which is of course what any bench player in the NFL is expected to say.

What turned some heads from the interview, though, was a comment Sanders made about current quarterback play in the league.
“You see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders said with a wry smile.

It’s unclear if Sanders was referring to his teammate Flacco, who has struggled for Cleveland so far this season with two touchdowns against four interceptions for a quarterback rating of 37.5 (ranking him 28th in the NFL among his peers).
Still, the comment will no doubt draw scrutiny.
Of course, Browns fans shouldn’t fault Sanders’ confidence until he proves that confidence is unwarranted, and without a shot under center in regular-season action this year, we’ll all be left to wonder.
