Injuries are once again plaguing the San Francisco 49ers. Unlike last season, however, the team has managed to remain undefeated through three games as they prepare to host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
The 49ers recently suffered a devastating blow when defensive end Nick Bosa was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury. On Thursday, general manager John Lynch also revealed that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is “not close” to returning from the ACL and MCL injuries he suffered in 2024.

The offense hasn’t been spared either. Quarterback Brock Purdy has already missed two games with a toe injury. Tight end George Kittle has been sidelined since Week 1 due to a hamstring issue, with Week 6 being his earliest possible return. Meanwhile, Jauan Jennings is battling shoulder and ankle injuries, and even Mac Jones, who has been filling in for Purdy, is nursing a re-aggravated knee sprain.
Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon recently highlighted each NFL team’s biggest weakness heading into Week 4, and for the 49ers, the answer is obvious: injuries. While San Francisco fans have grown all too familiar with this problem, Gagnon did point to one silver lining in the team’s push for another postseason berth.
“Thank goodness for a laughable schedule,” Gagnon wrote. “Three one-score wins down, and they host the Jaguars on Sunday. Still, it’s hard to imagine the Niners holding off Seattle and the Rams in the NFC West.”
The 49ers have already notched a win over the Seahawks, edging them 17-13 in the season opener. After Sunday’s matchup against Jacksonville, they’ll face a quick turnaround with a critical NFC West showdown against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on a Thursday night.
As for the injuries, Gagnon’s comments echo the thoughts of the fans: “This is just ridiculous for a team that was ravaged by injuries in 2024.”
