Social media had a lot to say after a Washington Commanders fan exposed a loophole in the NFL’s “Rookie of the Week” voting system that helped wide receiver Jaylin Lane win the honors.
Jaylin Lane was named “Rookie of the Week”, determined via online voting by fans, after racking up 127 yards on five punt returns, including a 90-yard touchdown that helped Washington cruise to a 41-24 blowout win over the visiting Las Vegas Raiders.
Now 2-1, the Commanders will try to improve to 3-1 when they visit Michael Penix Jr. and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Lane was the second Commanders player to win Rookie of the Week this season. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt took the honors in Week 1 after rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries in a 21-6 win over the New York Giants, per ESPN.
And let’s just say Jaylin Lane owes a giant “thank you” to a Commanders fan who used a special loophole to help him win Rookie of the Week honors. As you can see in this video shared by ML Football, the Commanders fan used their computer to vote for Lane over 7,000 times:

Needless to say, social media had plenty of fascinating reactions to this genius loophole the Commanders fan discovered.
“Definitely a scandal but gotta give the guy credit for being smart enough to pull it off,” a fan wrote.
“As if there isn’t one of these in every fanbase. *ScAnDaL*,” said another.
“weird thing to spend your time doing,” wrote a user.
“W fan… we just more passionate about our players🙂,” another commented.
“@raidernation let’s do work,” said a Raiders fan.
“We love it,” wrote a user.
The Commanders will need more from Jaylin Lane and company in Atlanta, as star quarterback Jayden Daniels has already been ruled out for Week 4 as he continues to deal with a knee injury.
Veteran Marcus Mariota will get the start once again on Sunday. In Week 3, the No. 2 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft completing 15 of 21 pass attempts for 207 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions to go along with 40 rushing yards and a rushing score.
