SHELBINA, Mo. — Both Highland and South Shelby were looking to get out of the winless category when they met on Friday night in what was the Cardinals’ homecoming game.
South Shelby got the best out of its Clarence Cannon Conference rival to come away with a 40-22 win.
Running back Hudson Gill led the way for the Cardinals, rushing for 169 yards on 18 carries and scoring three touchdowns.
Cardinals quarterback Chase Moellering had 12 carries fro 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Logan Hubbard also had a rushing touchdown for South Shelby.
Porter Peters, Xavier Santiago and Chris Gaus each had a rushing touchdown for the Cougars.
Up next for Highland (0-5) is a home game against CCC rival Centralia (4-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3.
