The Jaguars closed out nonleague play with another dominant showing over visiting Miramonte on Friday night en route to a 59-21 victory.
The 59 points are the most that Windsor (5-0) has scored in a game since 2019 and the win secures its playoff eligibility heading into league play in two weeks.
How it happened
The Jaguars needed just nine offensive plays to leap out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Junior quarterback Carter Vose III had a career night, completing 14-of-20 passing attempts for 272 yards and three scores on the evening. He was 13-of-15 in the first half for 232 yards with three scores. He connected with junior wide receiver Blayke Ferronato twice in the first half for scores of 38 and 27 yards and hit Gabriel Suarez for a four-yard score.
Marco Sanchez and Fernando Lopez each added rushing touchdowns in the first half and Kevin Gonzalez drilled a 38-yard field goal to put Windsor comfortably in front 38-0 at halftime. Miramonte (3-2) managed just 58 total yards on 36 plays over the first two quarters.
But the Matadors kept the game from going to a running clock with a few scores in the third quarter off a few miscues from Windsor’s backups. Jonah Imberg broke free for a 53-yard touchdown run early in the third to make it 38-7. Windsor turned the ball over on a fumble on its next possession — one of three lost fumbles the Jaguars had in the second half — and the Matadors turned the takeaway into a score on a short fourth-down touchdown pass to make it 38-14 heading into the fourth.
Windsor put its starters back in after another lost fumble at Miramonte’s goal line and quickly re-extended its lead. Lopez took in a four-yard touchdown run, one of three touchdowns he had on the night, to make it 45-14 with 11:11 to play.
The Matadors were able to score again on a 75-yard scoop and score from Andrew Bjornson but Windsor tacked on two more scores to trigger the running clock for the final four minutes.
Lopez scored his third touchdown from 21 yards out to make it 52-21 with 7:24 to play and Jack Morris ran in a four-yard score to make it 59-21 with 4:08 to go.

Lopez finished with three rushing touchdowns on five carries for 52 yards and had an interception on defense. Morris led the team in rushing with 89 yards on nine carries with a score, while Ferronato had a breakout game with seven receptions for 162 yards with two touchdowns.
Five different players found the end zone for Windsor, which finished the game with 417 yards on 39 plays. Along with his four-yard touchdown reception, Suarez also had a sack and an interception on defense. Jax Lagourge, Joseph Bridgers and Semere Berhe also each had a sack.
Key plays
Ferronato’s 38-yard touchdown late in the first quarter made it clear early that this was Windsor’s night. After catching the ball about 15 yards off the line, he made multiple defenders miss on his way to the end zone.
Jags are absolutely rolling right now. @Blaykeferronato with a couple shifty moves to score from 38 yards out and make it 21-0.

Quotable
“After last week starting slow, we really worked on starting fast this week. Lot of up-tempo, no-huddle stuff and I thought our guys did a great job coming out and jumping on them early and scoring quick. Defensively, I thought we played pretty well again. Second half, you start subbing guys and things happen fast, but that’s why we tell our guys all the time that it’s a 48-minute game. So even at halftime when it was 38-0, we kept preaching that we had 24 minutes to go and we had to keep playing and finish. We’ll work on some things there, but overall proud of the guys tonight and proud of the way we played.” – Windsor head coach DJ Sexton.
“We feel like we’ve handled business and we feel like we’ve shown a lot of good fight in a lot of the things that we’ve done. We know that there’s always room to get better and we’re going to continue to try to get better. We know the challenge coming up in league but we feel good about what we’ve done. We feel like we’ve handled business against teams that we’re a little bit better than, but I also think we’ve been pretty dominant in a lot of areas. A lot of bright spots, some things to clean up, but overall we’re pleased with where we’re at.” – Sexton on nonleague play
