The San Francisco 49ers were hit with more bad news ahead of Sunday’s Week 4 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but this time, fortunately, it has nothing to do with an injury.

The 49ers placed star edge-rusher Nick Bosa on season-ending injured reserve after tearing his ACL in the team’s 16-15 Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and they’re already without All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who’s nursing an injured hamstring.

But on Saturday, San Francisco learned that star linebacker Fred Warner, who leads the team with 30 tackles along with two tackles for loss, three passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, was hit with a pretty hefty fine for his actions in the team’s Week 3 win, as announced by the league on Saturday.

“There also were several fines issued for use of the helmet against defensive players in Week 3 — including #49ers LB Fred Warner getting docked $23,186 on this play,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.

Warner’s fine was the largest of the 20 fines announced by the NFL on Saturday, tying him with Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams and Los Angeles Rams safety Kam Kinchens for the largest fines of Week 3.

Williams was penalized for unnecessary roughness (use of the helmet), while Kinchens was also fined for unnecessary roughness (hit on a defenseless player).

Fortunately for the 49ers, the fine won’t prohibit Warner from playing in Sunday’s matchup against the Jaguars.

The 28-year-old Warner, who signed a three-year, $63 million contract extension back in May, is the leader of the 49ers’ defense with Bosa out the rest of the year.

A four-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler, Warner has recorded 118 or more tackles in each one of his even NFL seasons — all with the 49ers. He’s logged 16 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries along with 56 passes defensed as San Francisco’s star middle linebacker.
