The San Francisco 49ers may be without their 2024 breakout star wide receiver Jauan Jennings again in Week 4 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Levi’s Stadium.
Finding healthy, productive receivers has been tough for the 49ers this season and Jennings’s continued injury problems haven’t helped. The good news is despite missing most of training camp with a calf injury, Jennings hit the ground running with seven catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in two games.
Here’s what we know about Jennings’ status going into Sunday:
Jauan Jennings injury update
Jennings finally got back on the practice field Friday after missing all three Week 3 practices and the first two days of Week 4 practices. He hurt his shoulder in Week 1 and played through it to suit up in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, but in that game he hurt his ankle and wound up missing the 49ers’ home opener vs. the Arizona Cardinals.
Will Jauan Jennings play vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The 49ers are officially listing Jennings as questionable, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday night reported Jennings is expected to play, but in a limited fashion with a game looming vs. the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.
What Kyle Shanahan said about Jauan Jennings’s injury update
There hasn’t been much from the 49ers’ head coach on Jennings. On Wednesday he expressed some hope that the breakout WR would be able to play, but there was very little certainty when he was asked how far Jennings is from playing.
“Hopefully he can this week,” Shanahan said in a press conference. “He will be similar to last week. He was close to getting in, never was able to make it, and it’ll be the same this week.”
Jennings in Week 3 was listed as questionable before getting ruled out a few hours prior to kickoff.
Who will start for the 49ers if Jauan Jennings is out vs. the Jaguars?
There are multiple question marks in the 49ers receiving corps since Ricky Pearsall is also questionable. If Jennings is out, WR Demarcus Robinson could be up next after returning from his three-game suspension. Given that he hasn’t practiced much through three weeks the 49ers could lean on Kendrick Bourne out of the gate. Either way we’ll probably see a patchwork receiving corps at the No. 2 WR spot if Jennings is out and Pearsall plays.
