Tight end Trey McBride became the first Arizona Cardinals player fined this season when tape review cost him $11,593 for taunting San Francisco 49ers safety Marques Sigle after a 17-yard reception in the second quarter in last Sunday’s 16-15 loss.
McBride appeared to stare down Sigle briefly after getting up from the ground, and there was no penalty called on the play. Of note is that only five of the 10 taunting fines assessed in the first three weeks of the season were penalized.

49ers linebacker Fred Warner was fined $23,186 for use of the helmet on a one-yard run by James Conner in the first quarter on third-and-1. Warner appeared to lower his helmet slightly on the play, but it didn’t seem to be egregious. It also wasn’t penalized. He was one of five fines for use of the helmet in Week 3.
League-wide, 19 players were assessed 20 fines for a total of $262,382. New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was fined for two plays: $11,593 for a facemask and $17,389 for a hip-drop tackle.
In Week 3, 11 of the 20 plays that were fined resulted in flags during the game. In three weeks, there have been 59 fines with 34 not penalized on the field.
Taunting was penalized five of 10 times, and a violent gesture only once of four fines. Four hip-drop fines were not penalized, while there was not a flag on one obscene gesture.
