The Cleveland Browns bolstered their quarterback depth chart through the 2025 NFL draft, selecting Dillon Gabriel (No. 94 overall) and Shedeur Sanders (No. 144 overall).
Through the first four weeks of the Browns’ 2025 season, Gabriel has been listed as the primary backup behind veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco while Sanders is operating as Cleveland’s third-string QB option.
Earlier this week, Sanders shared some comments that got many fans talking about a possible NFL trade involving the Browns’ rookie.
“If you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders said, via ESPN Cleveland. “It’s obvious a lot of teams would be playing me, but that’s not in God’s plan right now. I’m ready to play right now.”

While there’s been speculation regarding a possible move, the Browns have no intention to trade Sanders this season, according to a report from team insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
“Both Gabriel, the backup quarterback, and Sanders, the emergency third QB the first four weeks, are making progress, and developing at a nice clip,” Cabot reported. “In the case of Sanders, he needed to get up to speed on all things presnap, and has done an excellent job of that.
“… Regardless, the Browns have no plans to part with either of their rookie QBs, and they’re not going anywhere.”

Sanders had been connected to several teams via trad over the last few week including the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Browns, who started the year 1-2, trail the Detroit Lions 20-10 to start the fourth quarter in Week 4. Had it not been for a miraculous finish against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, the Flacco-led Cleveland squad could easily be winless this year.
With a disappointing start to the season, Gabriel could take over as the team’s starting quarterback sooner rather than later. It’s unclear if Sanders would jump Flacco on the depth chart in that scenario.
The Browns will face off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, taking the field at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in an international matchup.
